A model for the development of cavities in superplastic alloys is described, based on a previous publication, and is extended to predict strain to failure. It is demonstrated that variations in initial cavitation density within a test specimen can have a marked effect on strain to failure and the predictions of the model are shown to be in excellent agreement with experimental results obtained on the aluminium alloy 2004 (Supral).
