The effect of different levels of cold prestrain on some creep characteristics at 975 K of an Fe–21Cr–32Ni alloy was investigated. The prestrain influences the steady-state creep rate, the structure, and the internal stress measured by the strain-transient dip test technique. This internal stress is identical with that calculated from the dislocation strengthening. The steady-state creep rate of the alloy depends on the effective stress only, without respect to the level of prestrain.
