Tensile data for A508 steel in the temperature range 24°C ≤ T ≤ 288°C are examined using acoustic emission and compared to similar data previously obtained for A533B steel. The ‘energy’ rate at yielding shows a well defined yield stress dependence and a Boltzmann law dependence upon temperature. Strain aging is found at 200°C for A508 but at 288°C for A533B, connected with a Portevin–Le Chatelier effect.
