Phase equilibria have been investigated in the Ni-rich portion of the Ni-Cr-Ta system for temperatures of 1523 and 1273 K, using electron microprobe and x-ray diffraction analysis. The four phases represented in the partial isothermal sections determined are γ(Ni-rich solid solution), Ni3Ta, Ni2Ta, and NiCrTa. The sections contained two three-phase regions involving γ + Ni3Ta + NiCrTa and Ni3Ta + Ni2Ta + NiCrTa. The compound Ni8Ta and its associated phase regions were not studied.
