Abstract
A novel kinetics treatment is presented of the homogenization of solid solutions which exhibit coring. This treatment is applied to the homogenization of a 1·5% chromium high-carbon steel and to a nickel-ehromium steel, using data taken from the literature. The kinetics treatment gives a good approximation to the experimental results; it is also possible to use it for modifying the evaluations of the original authors. Its application is helped by plotting homogenization diagrams. It is suggested that these might form the basis of computer control of homogenization furnaces in production.
