Abstract
The cyclic deformation and crack initiation of [023] Ni3 Al+0·1B single crystals were studied under fully reversed plastic strain control. The cyclic stress–strain response and the development of slip bands with extrusion morphologies were recorded. The dislocation microstructures were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the cyclic compressive stress was slightly greater than the cyclic tensile stress. The present work further verifies and supports previous observations on a single slip orientation by Hsiung and Stoloff.
