This paper presents results of an experimental investigation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of a carbon steel in a typical synthetic Bayer liquor (SBL), employing a slow strain rate testing (SSRT) technique. Fractographic details of SCC crack propagation of specimens tested in SBL and an inert environment have been compared.
