Abstract
A novel MgAl2O4/TiN composite has been synthesised by aluminothermic reduction and nitridation. The path to reaction was examined by differential thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetric analysis. The phase characterisation and microstructure of the novel composite were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction analysis, SEM, and electron probe microscope analysis, respectively. As a result when the starting temperature is ∼ 1000 ° C, TiN and MgAl2O4 form a solid solution.
