Abstract
An anomalous phenomenon has been found during an investigation of the effect of external stress on the aging behaviour of a copper–beryllium alloy. The phenomenon is a reversible shape change, i.e., a large spontaneous deformation during aging under an elastic stress and its restoration by a re-solutionising treatment. The aging induced deformation is closely related to the hardening behaviour of the alloy.
