Abstract
The protective action of cobalt doped zinc coatings has been studied by pulsed galvanostatic and cyclic voltammetry methods. The increase in the protective properties resulting from doping with cobalt was found to be related to the formation of corrosion products that are firmly bonded to the steel substrate. Atmospheric corrosion tests have shown that cobalt doped zinc coatings may be suitable as an alternative to cadmium coatings.
