Abstract
A literature survey on the corrosion of copper in aqueous solutions, with particular relevance to potable water, is presented. Coverage is of inorganic and physicochemical aspects of copper corrosion, namely those dealing with the thermodynamics of copper corrosion reactions, oxygen reduction at copper surfaces, and the photoelectrochemistry of the copper-copper oxide-electrolyte, system. Microbially induced pitting corrosion and transport in associated biomembranes are also considered.
