Abstract
Analysis of ac harmonic currents has led to a new technique for measuring corrosion rates. This involves perturbing the system with a non–distorted sinusoidal ac potential and measuring the harmonic currents. However, misleading results can be obta ned if proper experimental conditions are not maintained. The most appropriate conditions were established by carrying out simulation studies and simplified, cost effective instrumentation using appropriate software was suggested. Its reliability has beenchecked by studying the case of iron corrosion inhibited by a new class of conductingpolymers.
