Abstract
Soil corrosion of cast iron and the effect on corrosion rate of acid rain and soil humidity were studied in a laboratory experiment. The corrosion cell consisted of a box containing two cast iron electrodes, one buried in clay and the other in sand, the corrosion current between the two being measured. During the test acidified or nonacidified water was sprayed on the soil in the cell once a day. The cell was studied under water saturated, partially dry, and dry conditions. The highest corrosion current and the greatest response to acid rain were found in partially dry soil.
