Abstract
The behaviour of the aluminim alloy AlMg4 (ASTM classification AA5086) in aqueous 3%NaCI solutions containing different quantities of the disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDT ADS) at various pH values was studied using gravimetric and electrochemical techniques (potential–time and polarisation curves, impedance spectrograms). It was observed that EDTADS had no effect on the AA5086 corrosion at pH 5·5, whereas it accelerated the attack at pH 7·5 and 9·5. The corrosion rate atthese two last values increased with the EDTADS concentration. A better agreement between gravimetric and impedance data than between gravimetric and polarisation data was found.
