Abstract
Tetra-alkoxysilanes and dialkoxydiphenoxysilanes were prepared by reacting SiCl4 with alcohol and alcohol-phenol mixtures in the liquid phase at atmospheric pressure. The performance of these compounds as temporary protectives for mild steel surfaces has been studied by the method of first rust spot appearance. The percentage weight increases of test specimens owing to corrosion after various testing times were measured, and these results are compared with those for commercial silicone fluid.
