Practical measurement of the AC impedance of steel bars embedded in concrete by means of a spectrum analyser (Fast Fourier Transform)

Abstract

Standard electrochemical techniques for measuring corrosion rate, such as determination of linear polarisation resistance, or of charge transfer resistance, have been found difficult to use for measurements on reinforcements in hardened concrete. This technical note describes practical measurements of AC impedance in concrete by means of an H.P. Spectrum Analyser, but without the help of computer control analysis.
