Abstract
This study describes some electrochemical characteristics of the anodic oxide film on titanium. The oxide films were formed at constant current density to various quantities of charge; thereafter the current was interrupted and the open circuit capacitance, resistance and potential values were followed with time.
A model is presented to account for the kinetic features encountered during the course of corrosion of the anodic titanium oxide. The arguments are based on the mechanism of formation of the oxide and the distribution of defects therein across the thickness. The corrosion reaction appears to be a dissolution/formation one, with dissolution as the predominant reaction over the period of exposure investigated.
