Abstract
Corrosion rate monitoring based on electrochemical methods is shown to provide an adequate tool for the fast and accurate determination of on-line corrosion rate in industrial electrolytic environments. Case histories, concerned with desalination plants and cooling tower water circuits, show that instantaneous corrosion rate measurements by the linear polarisation technique, combined with exposure of coupons, provide an efficient tool for optimising the technical-economic operation of the plant, and for determining the influence of the operating parameters on corrosion, thereby contributing to improved plant performance and efficiency.
