Abstract
The stress corrosion cracking behaviour of a forged AF 1410 steel bar in 3·5% sodium chloride solution has been investigated. The threshold stress intensity factor (KIscc)was determined to be < 19·3 MPa √. For applied stress intensity factors ≥ 58 MPa √ crack branching was observed from the fatigue precrack, whereas for values ≤ 46 MPa.√ a single stress corrosion crack was formed.
