Abstract
The life of a solar water heating system will depend on the durability of the materials of construction involved and on the conditions existing within and around the system. An attempt is made to define the conditions that will affect the performance of the materials and also to highlight problem areas. Attention is given to water factors, water treatment and the use of inhibitors in the control of corrosion and scaling. Detailed information is given on the performance of various materials, particularly metals, used for constructing solar water heaters.
