Abstract
This Symposium, organised by the Manchester Section and Materials Preservation Group of the Society of Chemical Industry, in association with the Chemical Engineering, Industrial Health and Safety Groups of the Society and the N. W. Branch of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, was held at the Excelsior Hotel, Manchester, on 17 March, 1976. The theme of the Symposium can be defined as ‘those measures needed to reduce or prevent all aspects of loss inproduction resulting from inefficient economies, materials selection and operation, lack of safety and related matters’.
Sixty-one people registered for the Symposium and six papers were presented with ample time for discussion. The Symposium was chaired by Professor T. K. Ross, Deputy and Vice Principal, UMIST. A report on the Symposium is given below. However, it was generally agreed that the information presented at the Symposium deserved a wider audience. Consequently, the Symposium is to be repeated in London at the Headquarters of the Society of Chemical Industry, 14 Belgrave Square, on 17 November, 1976. Full preprints of all the papers will be available to registered delegates.
