Stress Corrosion Susceptibility of As-Quenched Al-5·9 wt-% Zn-3·2 wt-% Mg Alloy

Abstract

Combined electron microscopy and electron energy analysis has been used to measure directly magnesium solute concentration profiles in an Al-5·9 wt-% Zn-3·2 wt-% Mg alloy quenched at different rates. The form of the profiles has been used to explain the stress corrosion susceptibility of the as-quenched material.
