Abstract
Ten years experience of the development of practical performance tests for the assessment of primer performance on ferrous substrates is presented in chronological form. The usefulness of the new technique in giving reliabable prediction of the true performance of new primer formulations in practice is illustrated. The care with which official salt spray tests must be regarded when used as a sorting test is emphasised and a more reliable ammonium sulphate spray test is proposed.
