Abstract
The role of different variables on stress-corrosion cracking of alpha brass in copper sulphate/ammonium sulphate solution (Mattsson's solution) has been investigated with annealed directly loaded wires. Composition, pH, ageing and other variables of the solution have been found to play an important part in controlling cracking susceptibility. The results are discussed in terms of the chemistry of the system based on the potential/pH diagram.
