Abstract
Mr. J. B. Cotton (I.M.I. (Kynoch) Ltd.): To put these papers into perspective, one must look at them against the general engineering background. Thus, considering the vast extent to which welding is used and the relatively low incidence of failure, one is tempted to ask, ‘Why does it not occur more often?’
The papers provide the answer in that the result of forty years’ investigation has (or should have) taught us how to avoid troubles.
