Abstract
For the past 13 years, the Collaborative Teacher Education Program (CTEP) has been using distance education to provide coursework in special education in several rural communities in Indiana. The challenge this program has addressed is offering high quality and comprehensive teacher preparation using the technology and resources that are available in rural communities. This article gives an overview of the program, and it provides guidelines for using distance education and for selecting communication technologies.
