School transportation for exceptional students is a complicated and involved operation, especially for exceptional students who live in rural areas. Concerns covered in the article are: a) federal requirements, b) IEP development for transportation services, c) specialized equipment needs, d) safety concerns, and e) transporter training needs. A program designed to respond to special transportation needs is also mentioned.
