Extensional behavior, broadly interpreted, is of major impor tance in the selection of geomembrane materials for certain applications. Ex tensional behavior is also not a single attribute, but a collection, requiring a suite of tests to assess the performance of each material. Results of such assess ments are presented for four types of geomembrane materials, and are used to develop a few fundamental and practical conclusions.
