Abstract
With the new metallocene catalyst technology, ethylene copoly mers of unprecedented lower densities are being introduced rapidly. Since these very low density polyolefins offer interesting mechanical properties, a systematic investigation into their thermal and mechanical properties was made. It was found, for example, that despite the low densities achieved, wide compositional variations existed between materials. A comparison was also made between the thermal mechanical properties with optical properties, with the conclusion that compositional homogeneities are required for good optical properties.
