Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to compare the performance of a typi cal dual lip air ring with that of the new Uni-Flo tandem air ring system. The goal is to determine whether the increased production rate attainable with the tandem air ring system has any adverse effects on the physical properties of the film. Both LDPE films and LLDPE/LDPE film samples were made and their physical properties analyzed by resin suppliers. There were some differences found when comparing the physical properties of the samples produced with the conventional air ring and those produced with the tandem air ring system. The magnitude of the effect also appears to be material dependent. The samples produced with the tandem air ring showed slight increase in gloss and a reduction in haze as compared to those produced on the conventional air ring.
