Abstract

The journal Clinical Medicine Insights: Circulatory, Respiratory and Pulmonary Medicine was launched in 2007 by Libertas Academica Press. From its inception, the journal has maintained a strong commitment to rigorous research ethics and reporting standards, becoming a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics. It has also consistently engaged in a robust peer-review process, involving a minimum of two independent expert referees for each submission. With these stringent standards, the journal has established itself as a valuable open-access resource, with all published articles freely available. Notably, the journal's articles are indexed in all major databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index), and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) ensuring that they are easily discoverable by a global audience. In 2016, the journal transitioned to a new publisher, Sage Publishing. This not only marked a significant milestone for Sage's Open Access publishing program, but also for the journal, and its long-term future in publishing high-quality open access research.
In 2023, the journal underwent a significant transformation, now bearing the title “Therapeutic Advances in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.” This title change reflects a wider rebranding process, bringing the journal into Sage's Therapeutic Advances family—a flagship series of open access clinical journals, several of which rank among the top quartile of their respective specialties. Furthermore, the new title better aligns with the primary focus of the work published in the journal.
In the same year, 2023, the journal received its inaugural Impact Factor—an impressive 2.0! This notable achievement signifies the journal's recognition within its field, a testament to the dedication and exceptional contributions of its editors, authors, and readers.
The journal's commitment to excellence remains, as it continues to operate as a peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal, dedicated to rigorous peer review, as well as upholding stringent ethical and reporting standards. It will continue to publish original research, reviews, and case reports that are immediately accessible to readers upon publication via PubMed Central and the journal website, https://journals.sagepub.com/home/CRA.
Among the exciting changes on the horizon for Therapeutic Advances in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is the implementation of a new standardized peer review and production workflow, designed to enhance efficiency. Additionally Plain Language Summaries will be directly integrated into the submission form, aiming to increase accessibility of the journal's content. Our submission system and journal website are compatible with ORCID and Figshare, helping our authors to share and receive greater recognition for their work.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us, there is a critical need for fast and reliable dissemination of knowledge, especially within our specialty. Therefore, we are confident that Therapeutic Advances in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with its high ethical standards, efficient peer review process, and commitment to open access, will continue to grow and thrive.
As we approach 2024, we are thrilled to share our exciting plans! Our upcoming initiatives include the launch of new special collections aimed at attracting high-quality articles on topics of current interest in the field. Simultaneously, we’re looking to expand our esteemed Editorial Board, bringing in even more diverse perspectives and expertise to support the journals’ growth and development. Additionally, we hope to work with the rising stars of the critical care and pulmonary medicine fields, fostering the next generation of thought leaders and innovators. Furthermore, we are gearing up to launch a new X (formerly Twitter) account to further engage with our authors, readers, and the broader academic community—stay tuned!
We appreciate the support from our editors, authors, and readers so far and look forward to their ongoing support as the journal continues to grow.
