Abstract
This paper critically examines the well-being of digital nomads within the tourism and hospitality industry. It proposes a conceptual framework that offers a comprehensive mechanism for understanding and promoting digital nomads’ well-being. The framework integrates multiple theoretical perspectives using a systematic review approach, informed by a critical analysis of existing literature on digital nomadism, researchers’ experiences, and insights. It identifies two distinct aspects of well-being: (1) the motivational aspect, grounded in Self-Determination Theory, and (2) the sustenance aspect, which encompasses institutional, social, and individual factors using an ecosystemic approach. These dimensions reveal a dynamic process through which digital nomads achieve and sustain well-being. By presenting this comprehensive framework, the study contributes to the literature on digital nomadism and well-being, illuminating an emerging phenomenon.
