Abstract
This study offers an in-depth exploration of the travel constraints faced by people with mobility impairments (PMIs) and the dynamic relationships among these constraints influencing their travel experiences. PMIs were recruited for in-depth interviews. Interview participants with mobility impairments engaged in in-depth interviews, shedding light on the constraints they encountered during their travels. Thematic coding was conducted to extract the findings. The travel constraints were classified within the framework of the theory of leisure constraints, with a pronounced focus on issues related to accessibility. The research revealed the dynamic moderating roles of travel constraints and travel experiences for PMIs. The findings underscore the intricate interplay between travel challenges and reasons to travel, providing valuable insights into this demographic’s unique needs and experiences. The study’s findings also contribute to Sustainable Development Goals by highlighting the importance of addressing travel barriers to promote inclusivity and equitable access to transportation and public spaces.
