Abstract
This essay examines the role of creativity and meaning in psychological development across the lifespan, weaving together scholarship with personal narrative. Taking a humanistic, existential, and depth psychological approach, it synthesizes foundational and contemporary research on adult development, creativity studies, and possibility studies to explore the benefits and challenges of creativity as a tool for self-actualization and human flourishing. It illuminates how, with conscious intention, individuals and groups can engage in creative pursuits as part of a meaning-making process in service of personal and societal development. The more we come to understand the connection between creativity, meaning, and psychological development, the more skillfully we can engage with them in service of psychological integration and positive social change.
