Abstract
Acknowledging creativity as an essential part of health and well-being throughout the lifespan is aiding in the recontextualization of aging as an integral part life, wherein creative involvement enables older people to define and live meaningful lives. Sociocultural developmental theories correspond with the creative arts therapies in that the creativity of older people is generative and reflective. Current development theory and research on innovative art therapy and creative aging methodologies can enhance our understanding of the cognitive and emotional changes of older people.
