Abstract

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season, a nice time to reflect, relax, and of course make music. I cannot believe how quickly 2023 went by and we are now entering 2024!
In my previous editorial, I shared the news that after 8 years of leading this journal, I will be stepping down as academic editor. It has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my professional career. Although the call for a new academic editor and editorial committee members was previously announced, I feel that this is a necessary time to share the call for nominations again. While we have had many individuals who have applied and expressed interest, we are open to reviewing applications through February 15, 2024. The details are as follows:
The Journal of General Music Education (JGME) is seeking nominations for members of the Editorial Committee with duties beginning on July 1, 2024, and continuing through July 1, 2030.
The JGME is a newly rebranded journal of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) (previously General Music Today). JGME’s new focus includes articles and columns on gender inclusivity, culturally responsive pedagogy, social-emotional learning, technology, aligning with standards, multilingual teaching, and other contemporary areas of inquiry.

Provide a letter indicating your interest in the position, including a statement that you can fulfill the duties required of the position.
Provide a shortened CV that characterizes your qualifications for the position.
Obtain two letters of support—sent directly to Rekha S. Rajan, the current JGME Academic Editor—from nationally recognized individuals, colleagues, or mentors in music education, early childhood education, or teacher education.
Additionally, I want to reiterate that while we are a professional, academic journal, we are inclusive and supportive of those who want to join the team! I have always encouraged not only people in higher education but also those who are in K–12 classrooms every day. That is what makes JGME unique and relevant.
As a reminder, we are seeking four members of our editorial committee, an academic editor, and columnists. I truly hope you will consider applying or recommending someone you feel will help our journal to grow and impact everyone in general music education.
