Abstract
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided tissue acquisition (TA) of upper gastrointestinal (GI) submucosal tumors or subepithelial lesions (SELs) should be strongly favored when nondiagnostic with conventional EUS alone. Innovation in endoscopic techniques and sophisticated diagnostic tools have improved efficacy and safety for its broader application. We describe the recent advancement in EUS-guided TA in upper GI SELs involving the esophagus and stomach. In culmination, the optimal approach to a nondiagnostic EUS evaluation of upper GI SELs, in most cases, is a definite EUS-guided TA for histological diagnosis.
