Only a small percentage of patients end up seeing a surgeon for GERD. This paper discusses the patients the surgeon typically sees, the patient selection process, and the process of choosing the best intervention for the patient in order to achieve optimal outcomes, which in turn are a balance between symptom relief/disease cure versus complication risk and side effects of the procedure.
