The study conducted by the researchers sheds light on the need to increase awareness and change the lifestyle to manage gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant women.
Gestational diabetes mellitus is a serious health concern that can have significant implications for both the mother and the fetus. Gestational diabetes mellitus emerges due to glucose intolerance in pregnant women. 1 It is a crucial contribution to both maternal and perinatal mortality. 2 Over the past eight years, the prevalence has increased by 12% annually. There are a number of risk factors for diabetes mellitus in pregnant women such as older age, a history of condition in the previous pregnancy, obesity, pregestational body weight, and a family history of diabetes mellitus. 3 Chronic gestational diabetes can increase the risk of perinatal death, large gestational age features, shoulder dystocia, neonatal hypoglycemia and respiratory problems, fetal birth trauma, fetal metabolic complications. 4 The comprehensive overview of the epidemiology, risk factors, screening methods, and management strategies for gestational diabetes mellitus provided valuable insight into this increasing prevalent condition among pregnant women.
