Abstract
Self-determination theory (SDT) has become a prominent motivational theory. It suggests the existence of three fundamental psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. When these three needs are pursued and met to varying degrees, the motivation will be self-sustaining and the resulting behavioural change will be long-lasting.
