This is an introduction to a special issue on ‘Experiences of COVID-19 Pandemic: Insights for Better Preparation and Action’. First, it summarises the main recommendations of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Response Inquiry Report and then introduces six articles from five countries. The analysis presented in these articles has implications for managing some aspects of future pandemics.
