Abstract

Dear Readers,
Welcome to the first edition (part 1) of Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics Essential Review Articles. This series of 20 articles, written by leaders in the field, covers basic but essential topics in foot and ankle surgery. Clinicians at all levels who are interested in providing outstanding foot and ankle care will find this an important and valuable source of information. We are excited to present this first set of 6 articles in print to the subscribers of FAI in October of 2018, but they are also freely available online worldwide consistent with our mission as an open-access journal.
These review articles are ideal for use as an introductory course in foot and ankle surgery curriculums by medical schools, residency programs, and fellowship training programs. Further, they will serve as an excellent tool for exam preparation and general review. To make these articles even more valuable for this purpose, we have partnered with the FAI CME Committee to develop a series of CME test questions that when aggregated will form a review test covering the basics of foot and ankle surgery. These questions will be developed over the coming year and will be available on the AOFAS website.
Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics (http://journals.sagepub.com/home/fao) has much more to offer you beyond these review articles and we encourage you to check out the complete offerings of our new online open access journal. We also welcome you to submit your original research, review articles, and case reports (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/fao). We hope you enjoy this special print edition and know that you will find our journal and these articles to be a useful resource in your practice of foot and ankle surgery.
