Abstract

Dear Readers,
Welcome to the third edition of FAO Essential Reviews. Amazingly, it has been nearly 2 years since the first of these articles was published online. Since then, we have covered many critical foot and ankle subjects with quality reviews by leaders in the orthopedic foot and ankle field. We trust that you have found that this series of articles has accomplished its goal of covering crucial topics in foot and ankle surgery in a way that is accessible to all providers of foot and ankle care. In this third edition, we present 4 articles that cover fundamental foot and ankle topics, including adult-acquired flatfoot, plantar fasciitis, ankle instability, and the use of braces and orthotics.
Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics is the open access online journal of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, which makes these essential reviews freely available to everyone worldwide at the time of publication and in perpetuity. We plan to continue to extend this series of articles to cover additional key topics in foot and ankle care and to provide updated versions of these reviews as new information becomes available.
In addition, we want you to know that Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics (journals.sagepub.com/home/fao) has much more to offer you! Browse our website to find quality original research articles, systematic reviews, and case reports.
Finally, please consider contributing to our journal by submitting your original research for publication (mc.manuscriptcentral.com/fao). We hope you enjoy this special print edition and know that you will find it to be a valuable resource in your practice of foot and ankle surgery.
In this time of uncertainty, know that you can always find accessible, comprehensive, and reliable information in Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics. We hope that this special edition finds you safe and well and continuing to provide excellent care to those in need.
