Abstract
This article discusses the mandate and activities of the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust (SAPMT). The built and intellectual heritages of Mahatma Gandhi form a key part of the mandate. As a part of this, the trust collaborates with different bodies that deal with Gandhi’s legacy. It has been an important part of different initiatives to preserve and document it the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi (CWMG) and the Gandhi Heritage Sites Mission (GHSM). The article also talks about the efforts of disseminating authenticated versions of Gandhi’s writings with the Gandhi Heritage Portal (GHP) and the innovations in archiving that the Trust has made with this. This is a case study which takes a holistic view of different aspects of heritage and talks about the opportunities and challenges that come with it.
