Abstract
The Scheduled Caste Students’ Education and Post-matric Scholarships programme in Madhya Pradesh is aimed at improving educational access and outcomes for marginalized communities. However, this initiative faces significant obstacles that hinder its effectiveness. Corruption within the administration of funds often results in delays and misallocation, preventing many eligible students from receiving the support they need. Additionally, social stigma and discrimination against Scheduled Caste students persist, further complicating their educational journey and affecting their morale and performance. To address these issues, several recommendations have been proposed. Implementing a transparent and accountable system for scholarship distribution is crucial. This could involve digital monitoring and independent audits to ensure funds are properly allocated and utilized. Increasing the budget for these scholarships would also enable more students to benefit from the programme. Furthermore, awareness campaigns are essential to inform eligible students and their families about the availability of scholarships and the application process, thereby increasing participation. Expanding the programme’s reach to include more students and providing additional support services, such as counselling and mentorship, can enhance its impact. By properly channelling post-matric scholarships, the programme has the potential to significantly improve educational opportunities and outcomes for thousands of Scheduled Caste students in Madhya Pradesh, paving the way for a more equitable and prosperous future.
