Written informed consent was obtained from all subjects or their legal representatives before the study. The licence of ethics committee also allowed inclusion of patients without consent if only demografic and basic clinical data were used and the patient and the legal representative were unable to give informed consent.

The trial was registered in the Clinical Tiral Registration database of the Clinical Research Centre of Tartu University Hospital and the University of Tartu.
There was also a mistake in the title where cardioembolic was spelt as cardiomebolic and two instances in the text where CI was written out as “cardiac index confidence interval” instead of “confidence interval” in the Results section of the Abstract and Main Text. The title and two instances of CI have been updated in the online version of this article.
