Abstract
We thank the authors of this letter for emphasising that brain protection after stroke goes beyond protection of neurons, since protection of other brain cells or functional units may be critical to improve stroke functional outcome.1This is precisely what we meant in our statement in the manuscript ‘Action Plan for Stroke in Europe 2018–2030’.2Please note that the Action Plan paper is not a review document and it was not intended to expand the different aspects highlighted in this letter that are addressed in more detail in the cited references.
