Paradigm Shifts in the Study of Women and Gender in World Christianity

Abstract

Christian women have played crucial roles in church growth in the global South, resulting in the shift of Christian demographics away from the global North. Women in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Caribbean, Oceania, and the Middle East should occupy a more important place in the study of world Christianity. This article explores how scholarship on women in the global South has caused changes in the fields of women’s history, gender studies, biblical studies, theology, and digital humanities. These changes, in turn, call for paradigm shifts in the study of women and gender in world Christianity.
