Abstract
This article considers how and why Pandita Ramabai’s mission transformed throughout her life. It argues that the intersection between Ramabai’s lifelong quest for mukti (liberty / freedom) and deepening Christian faith transformed her mission through four stages of her life. Between 1858-1883, Ramabai’s quest for mukti defined her mission and led her to embrace Christianity. From 1883-1893, her newfound Christian faith transformed her understanding of mukti. Between 1893-1905, Ramabai’s deepening Christian faith led her to famine relief work that brought Christ’s mukti to others. From 1905-1922, her mature Christian faith led her to testify to the mukti she discovered in Christ.
