Abstract
In 1843 Fidelia Fiske went as a missionary with the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to Urmia, Persia, to work among Nestorian girls and women. A girls’ school had been established there in 1838, but following its founder’s death it required new leadership. Under Fiske the number of students increased, and the school became a center for educating and evangelizing Nestorian girls and young women. This article considers Fiske’s contribution to expanding and stabilizing the school.
